The Fishing

South Bank - from Haywards bridge downstream two fields - approx 600 yards.

North Bank - from Haywards Bridge downstream for three fields - approx 1100 yards.

Tips!

All tactics produce, try Waggler when the flow is slow. No particular bait is better than another, although the Chub seem to prefer bread. Big worms for Big Perch.

Best Pegs

1. Directly below the bridge on both sides.

2. North side, directly after the shallow water before the first large bend (Chub!).

3. South side, at the start of the straight leg after tha overhanging tree.

Directions and Location

From Blandford, take A350 to Durweston Cross. Turn left onto A357 to Shillingstone. Drive through the village and take the first right to Child Okeford. After 50 yards, park on roadside near bridge under disused railway line. Avoid obstructing field gateways. From bridge into field on right for south bank fishing or over the river bridge (100 yards up the road) for north bank fishing.





Little Hanford (Chesil Farm)

         
         
         


The Fishing

North bank only - commencing approx 50 yards upstream of the footbridge, downstream to where woods reach the waterside. Approx 1300 yards.

Best Pegs

1. All pegs on this stretch are generally the same as each other.

2. Bread punch seems to work well.

This stretch is immediately downstream of the Shillingstone (Childe Okeford) section and access if obtainable to and from the Haywards Bridge section


Directions and Location

From Blandford, take A350 to traffic lights at Durweston Bridge. Turn left onto A357 to Shillingstone (3 miles). In village, turn 2nd right after speed limit boards into Hine Town Lane to roadside parking near Honeysuckle Gardens. Up lane on foot to 5 bar metal field date on right, into field and follow hedgeline exiting onto disused railway track. Over track, through gateway into field, over footbridge and onto the water. Or, continue up road from Chesil Dairy/Hanford School for half mile, turn left to Chesil Farm, up road, turn right through farmyard, turn left down track. Park on grass verge at bottom alongside ‘parking’ signs.

The Fishing

North bank only - commencing approx 150yds upstream of the footbridge, downstream for 4 fields to the start of the woods.

Best Pegs
1. Upstream to the riffle & first sharp bend in the river, lots of roach and dace.
2. Middle field near the gate in the hedge.
3. Downstream, to the very end of the stretch (Many club matches have been won from here).

Directions and Location

From Blandford, take A350 and cross the traffic lights at Durweston Bridge. Through Stourpaine take the next left signed Childe Okeford. Approx 1 mile along the road look for sign Chesil Dairy/Hanford School, turn left and follow narrow road to farm. Park in the lay-by.

VERY IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE
For security reasons the main farm gates will be locked at 9.00pm prompt. They will not re-open until 6.00am the following day. Members wishing to use the light summer evenings to fish on beyond 9.00pm must park outside the main farm gates on the grass verge.

Both banks commencing at Durweston Road Bridge 4000yds downstream for 4 fields to where the river meets the B3082.

Directions and Location

Take the A350 Blandford By-pass. At the bottom of the long incline, pass the left turning for the B3082 into Blandford. After 150yds, veer left onto the grass verge. Stop & park near the farm gate (DO NOT OBSTRUCT). Walk straight across the field to the river, from here you have 2500yds upstream & 1500yds downstream.

The Fishing

From Red Bridge – upstream both banks two fields. From Red Bridge – downstream north bank only to where River Cale joins the Stour. Fishing on the Cale is permitted from where it runs into the Stour upstream. East bank to the road bridge. Approximately 2000 yards Stour, 2500 yards Cale.

Directions and Location

From Sturminster Newton take B3092 to Marnhull. On entry to village turn sharp left at C of E Church (keeping church on left) and drive through the village (about 1 mile). On leaving village, follow road downhill to bridge over the river. This is Red Bridge. Park on the roadside verges wherever possible. This is the easiest on the section of road from the farm towards Stalbridge. Please avoid farm and field gateways.
